Unix/Solaris Systems Specialist
Our client is searching for a Unix/Solaris Systems Specialist with long term ownership and continuity. You will possess passionate ownership of systems and their health with some commercial sense around tradeoffs between commercial realities versus 24x7 uptime (high risk v low risk execution). You will also be a technical jack of all trades with skills in Web/internet.
You must have the following specific technical skills
Ability to troubleshoot systems level problems - work closely with developers, partners, suppliers, and vendors. Well-rounded understanding of all aspects of Solaris (e.g., patching, performance tuning, logging, monitoring, building, configuration, automation) and can handle server hardware in a data centre environment.
Have a clear and strong ability to use Unix tools and scripting to automate tasks. This includes a background of writing significant scripts in languages like shell or Perl. Specific application knowledge and Unix based web site/services delivery stack. Relational databases (as a black box set of processes, not as a DBA) (e.g., Oracle) and Java application container (e.g., Tomcat) with
Web server (e.g., Apache).
For all of these applications, will have strong knowledge of process tuning, log file handling, configuration and code and content deployment, release planning.
General understanding of clustering, clustered file systems, and shared storage arrays and proactive systems management with set up and evolution of monitoring and alert tools, trend analysis tools. Configuration management and understanding monitoring, alert, and trending tools. You will be a champion when systems improvements need to be made to further stability, mitigate risks, or proactively address potential performance constraints.
Architect underpinning systems and services, as driven by requirements from internal developers and external suppliers. Work with suppliers to develop a production architectures and specify kit for purchase based on plans and requirements.
Technically lead and mentor the more junior system administrators on the team
Pioneer initial systems solutions and delegate implementation responsibility to more junior members of the team. Make sure server portion of runbooks are complete and willingly participate in 24x7 rota as the final point of technical escalation for production systems problems. Migration planning and execution and participate in the release process and seek ways to improve it through the introduction of new tools and processes.

Networking background: Basic Cisco, Checkpoint networking skills; can manage a networking services supplier
Familiarity with Oracle and/or Informix databases
Familiarity with Tomcat Application Server and Apache Web Server
Familiarity with Sun storage arrays and Netapp storage networks
Virtualization (Solaris Zones)
Basic Oracle DBA and/or SQL skills
Experience with clustered file systems (e.g., Veritas)
Experience in the online gambling industry
Experience with online delivery of customer-facing products and services
